A centuries old stone-built village inn right on the seafront at Port Bannatyne, a yachting and fishing village three miles north of Rothesay. Bought by a Russian family ten years ago, the building has been completely refurbished and offers bed and breakfast in four guestrooms at economic rates. Russian Breakfast is served in The Russian Tavern, consisting of bread and croissants baked in-house; cereals, fresh fruit salad, yogurts and honey; a hot dish consisting of tomatoes stuffed with garlic and ginger, peppers wrapped in fine smoked ham, wild fungi quiche, Russian style chipolatas; puff pastries filled with cheese and sorrel, all on a bed of fresh wild salads.
Luncheon and dinner are available all day, all a la carte, freshly prepared to order from the finest fresh ingredients including berries, fungi, seaweed, herbs and salads collected from the wild. The menus are on the website.
The price of a double or twin room is £64. The family room of a double-bed and two bunkbeds is £75
The Russian owners have recreated a tavern of Imperial Times with live beers served straight from the cask, a piano and candle-light, wild flowers, books, chess and cards, and an atmosphere conducive to good conversation. There is a wide selection of wines, beers and vodkas imported from Russia and Erdinger Wheat Beer on tap.
The cuisine has been carefully researched by Babushka from the kitchen archives of The Tsar in St Petersburg, and long experimentation has gone into the authentic reproduction of these classic dishes using only the finest fresh ingredients, prepared and cooked to order. The Tavern has it’s own fisherman and freshly landed seafood is de rigueur, and includes the renown local langoustines, (the European Marine Crayfish.)
Parties of more than four should telephone their orders in advance. Booking is advisable particularly Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The menus may be seen on http://www.butehotel.com Just 150 metres from Port Bannatyne Marina. The Russian Tavern has four guestrooms available.
